Hello, welcome to the September Episode of Inner Circle TV.
Mike’s on holiday, so Jess is standing in for him – you’ll probably already know Jess as she answers a lot of the questions on the clubroom.
Today we’re explaining the things to try when something goes wrong on your phone, tablet or PC – when it won’t do what it’s supposed to… often even if it’s done it before.
If you’ve never ever had anything go wrong on any kind of electronic device at all then this isn’t for you… but if you’re like most people, this might be one of the most helpful 25 minutes and 47 seconds ever!
Having problems? Watch it on YouTube here.
Hope you find it interesting – and thanks to Jess for jumping into the breach!
Thanks
Tim & Jess

Hi,
I have just installed a new router. All seems well except that the computer seems to have lost contact with my remote wireless keyboard. I have tried settings > add a new device etc., even tried changing batteries but cannot regain it but without success. Can you help please?

Hi Roger,
When you first set up the wireless keyboard, did you have to use an installation disk or anything like that? It might be that you’ll have to remove the device from your device list in Settings and then re-add it using the installation disc.
If you can’t find it, let me know the make and model of the keyboard and I’ll see if I can find some instructions online for you,
Thanks
Jess

Hi Jess,
Many thanks for this. I did try re-installing from the disk that came with the keyboard (Microsoft) but that didn’t work. Then this morning from nothing other than desperation, I tried the old cure-all …. turn it all off, take out the battery and re-start. When everything came back on, the keyboard was working! Don’t know why I didn’t try that earlier, it nearly always works doesn’t it?
Thanks for your kindness, Roger

Hi Roger,
Oh that’s great, I’m glad it’s all sorted now.
Yes restart almost always works for any device, so simple but so effective.
Take care
Jess

Hi Mike, many thanks for your reply, I don’t know what I’ve done, but when I started up my laptop this morning things seem back to normal, but the icons are a bit wider apart. It took 4 1/2 minutes to start Windows, which is unusual. Anyway, fingers crossed, seems like a blip in the system. I don’t use my laptop so much since I bought my iPad, which I’m very pleased with. By the way, I’m 90 now and loving playing on the internet.
thanks again

Hi Jack,
Thanks for getting back to us, it may be that your laptop did have a bit of a blip and now it’s back to normal(ish).
I’d perhaps have a little look at the Update and Security settings. If you click on the Windows icon in the bottom left corner of the screen, click on the cog icon, then click on Update and Security, then Windows update on the left hand side, it should tell you if it’s doing any updates or not. It might also be worth clicking on the “Check for updates” button at the top of that screen.
I hope this helps,
Take care
Jess 🙂

Hi, when I fired up my Acer Aspire 5551 today, everything on the screen had doubled in size, the icons, the photos…the wallpaper…everything. I’ve managed to get the icons to their usual size by pressing cntrl and scrolling the mouse dial, but they are still spread all over the screen and everything else is double size. I am on Windows 7. Any ideas?

Hi Jack, gosh I’m really not sure what’s happened here. Do you remember if you installed a program recently or maybe changed a setting? We sometimes change the settings here when doing screen recordings so we can show clearly what’s happening on the screen.
Is this happening in all programs or just on the internet?
Thanks
Mike :/
