Hello, welcome to the November Episode of Inner Circle TV.
In this episode, we thought we’d try something a bit different by starting off with “What’s new” in the tech world. We’ll probably continue this section in future episodes.
We also talk about WhatsApp and how you can easily keep in touch with family and friends.
And finally, we talk about Black Friday, Cyber Monday and why some savings might not actually be as good as they look.
Having problems playing it? Watch it on YouTube here.
We hope you find it interesting
Thanks
Tim & Jess

I’ve been trying to explore the new Clipboard Settings feature in Windows but have discovered that my pc is still only updating version 1803 rather than 1809. I’ve checked again this morning. Am I just “in a queue” or is there something I can or should do to ensure I’m running the latest version?
Thanks a lot.

Hi Pip,
Thanks for getting in touch. Don’t worry, 1809 is still rolling out, one of my computers hasn’t got the update yet and the next update is out in April so they better hurry up and roll it out!
Keep checking your updates in Settings and you can manually click on the Check for updates button to see if there are any available.
I hope this helps,
Thanks
Jess

Hello Jess
I am having trouble with my laptop. For the last three evenings when I close it down it says on the screen that I must not shut it down as it is going to do 1 of 1 updates. However, as this keeps on happening, I feel that it must shut itself down before the up-date is completed. Either this, or it has just got stuck on this whenever I shut it down in the evening. Have you any ideas about it? Thanks.
Eileen

Hi Eileen,
Thanks for getting in touch. I think it’s best that you manually check for any updates to see if that will fix the problem.
To do this:
1. Click on the Start button in the bottom in the bottom left corner of your screen.
2. Click on Control Panel in the right-hand side column of the start menu.
3. Click on System and Security.
4. Click on Windows Update.
5. Click on Check for updates.
This will hopefully find the update that your laptop is trying to do and it’ll let you install it manually.
Let me know if this doesn’t work and we can try something else,
Thanks
Jess

Hello Jess – thank you for your quick reply. I have followed your instructions but to no avail. I then went on to Up Dates History where it said that some up-dates were not installed and quoted the last few days, but it kept continually trying to up-date the last one and I had to leave it at that. Unfortunately it still says that there is an up-date of 1 of 1 when I try to close the laptop down each evening. Perhaps you have another suggestion.

Hi Eileen,
If you could give me some more details about the update that’s failed, I can maybe see if I can find a solution for you on Microsoft’s website.
Thanks
Jess

Hi Jess
All I can say is that this up-date seems to be unavailable and my laptop keeps trying to do it each evening when I close down. After some minutes the computer closes itself down and re-starts the next morning as usual as though nothing is wrong. The Security Up-Date for Microsoft Works just says the one important message has failed. Please let me know if there is any other information for me to find for you.
Thanks Eileen

Hi Eileen,
Thanks for getting back to me. I think it’d be best to run the troubleshooter to see if that fixes anything.
You can download it here – https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/4027322/windows-update-troubleshooter
Click on “Download Troubleshooter for Windows 7” and run it and let me know what it says.
Thanks
Jess

Hello Jess – My son came round yesterday and had a look at my computer. He followed your instructions and found that it is Microsoft Works which it is trying to up-date. As I haven’t got Microsoft Works on my computer he says that is why it is trying to up-date something that isn’t there. Is it possible to cancel this and if so, how do I go about it? Your help will be much appreciated. Eileen

Hi Jess – I have tried to do what you said but do not understand all the jargon. What answer should I select and download from the several listed? Unfortunately my son is not available to help me further, but I am sure you will be able to. Many thanks – Eileen

Hi Eileen,
My guess is that you might still have a few Microsoft Works system files on there that it’s trying to update but can’t as the whole program isn’t there anymore.
If you click on the link above to open the Troubleshooter download page, then click on “Download troubleshooter for Windows 7 and Windows 8” and it’ll download the troubleshooter for you.
Once it’s downloaded, you should see the file at the bottom of your browser window. Click on it to open it and go through the instructions on the screen.
Let me know how you get on,
Thanks
Jess

i Jess – Unfortunately I seem unable to download anything as when I get the troubleshooter up nothing happens on any point I click on, despite it telling me how to download. Perhaps I had better just grin and bear things as they are, but will the laptop download other things when necessary, always leaving one left over?

Hi Eileen,
Once you’ve clicked to download it, open up Windows Explorer and go to your downloads folder. The download should be in there. If you double click on it, it should run the installer.
I’m not sure if your computer will download other updates until this one has finished, is there a way you can switch automatic updates off? Then try to manually do the updates by clicking on manually update.
Let me know how you get on,
Thanks
Jess

Hello Jess – Thank you for your quick reply. I have downloaded Windows Up-dates and got Deleting Problems and also Resolving Problems – collecting files. When troubleshooting had completed it said – problems fixed – all except error 0x8024402c (2018-12-11-T-04_48_07P ) not fixed. It appears unable to fix it, so will wait for my son to return next weekend and see if he can delete it. He did originally set up the computer for me so should know better about it than me! Thanks for your help.

Hi Eileen,
That error code is to do with a system file error which could be to do with Microsoft Works not being uninstalled properly at some point.
Hopefully your son can have a look and see if he can sort it for you.
Let me know how you get on,
Thanks
Jess

Have a new Alcatel mobile phone. When I deleted a WhatsApp conversation recently, the text disappeared but the photos that were with it were not automatically saved to the Gallery . It may be that I’m not yet used to the phone. Any comments please?

Hello,
Thanks for getting in touch, sometimes the option to save photos automatically in WhatsApp is switched off. To check this, open WhatsApp and tap on the three dots in the top right corner of the screen. Then click on Settings and then Chats and makes sure the option at the bottom of the screen “Show media in gallery” is switched on.
I hope this helps,
Thanks
Jess
