Hello
We are aware of a problem with emails we are sending to members with hotmail.com/live.com/outlook.com, AOL and Yahoo addresses (also .co.uk variants).
If you have this type of email account then we can’t email you from the Inner Circle at the moment, sorry. If we need to email you we will send an email from @helpfulbooks.co.uk.
We are looking into the problem with our email provider and we hope to have a solution soon.
What’s affected:
- Emails from [email protected] to Outlook.com etc… , AOL and Yahoo users
- Auto emails from the website (replies to Clubroom questions) to Oulook.com etc…, AOL and Yahoo users
What’s working:
- Everything else and people with other types of email accounts are working fine.
- Emails from you to us are fine (even from outlook.com etc…, AOL and Yahoo accounts)
Updates:
- 26 October 2017 Problem is happening to Yahoo and AOL accounts too.
- 26 October 2017 We have heard back from our email provider and they are aware of the problem and working to fix it. They are hoping to give us a fix soon.
- 26 October 2017 Mike realises, not for the first time, that sending emails that get to where you send them is really difficult.
- 31 October 2017, after trying a couple of fixes and sending out a couple of test emails it looks like this still isn’t working. We are still trying to fix it. Sorry
- 8th November 2017, we are still having problems. I’m looking into using a new service to send emails, but this requires a change to the website which needs testing so may take a little time. Again I’m really sorry we haven’t found a fix for this.
- 8th November 2017. Since March 2017 we have sent nearly 2000 emails from our website. It doesn’t sound a lot, but when lots of them look very much the same, spam filters start to think something wrong is going on. We are still looking into improving email deliverability.
- [Fixed] 14 November 2017. This issue has now been fixed. We are sending Emails Via a service called SendGrid who specialise in sending emails to people. I have written the technical details up but not posted them, if you are interested (it shows the full setup including all my failed tests and other random problems I had along the way and how I fixed them) let me know and I will get it published. Again I’m so sorry we had problems with this, hopefully, this fix will keep emails flowing down the tubes.
If you spot a problem other than this let us know in the comments.
Thanks
Mike 🙂

How do easily get my login page with hotmail.co.uk
(sorry, the first post put a ? instead of hotmail.co.uk)

Hi there,
The easiest way to have your log in page there ready for you is by creating a shortcut to the website on your desktop. To do this, go to your log in page and click on the three dots in the top right corner of the screen. From that menu, click on “More Tools” and then “Add to desktop” and it’ll create a link on your desktop for you.
I hope this helps,
Thanks
Jess

Appreciate your instruction to place 《hotmail》 log-in label on my desktop Jessica. Thank you for that.
The Samsung Tab 3 is baffling me with this – I do not know how to put the 《hotmail》 onto the desk-top on it?
I’m really ignorant on these things. Any steps you can tell me to take in order to comfortably and easily get signed in from the Tab 3 please?

Hello,
I would probably suggest downloading the Outlook app from the Play Store instead of trying to use a short cut. The Outlook app works really well and is quite similar to using the online version. To download the app, open the Play Store and search for Outlook. Tap on Install and wait for it to download. Once it’s downloaded, open the app and sign in with your hotmail account details.
If you would rather have a shortcut, let me know and I can walk you through setting one up on your home screen,
Thanks
Jess

Hi Janet,
Oh I know It’s been a right faff with emails, hopefully (if you get this in an email then it is) it should be all fixed now! The problem was we were using a shared service to send emails through and someone else who used the service had been marked as sending spam emails.
I’ve changed the service we use now so hopefully, that won’t happen again…
Hope you are feeling better and thanks for your comment.
Mike 🙂
P.S. Let me know if you would like me to pop Tim’s Christmas Present in the post to you. You can read more about it here.

Is it good house-keeping to disconnect from broadband and close down my PC every night?
Or is it a waste of time?
November 30, 2017 at 8:14 pm
Hi Ian.
My recommendation is to turn your computer off every night, but leave your broadband router switched on all the time. The way Broadband works is if it keeps disconnecting (or you turn your router off) then the broadband system thinks there is something wrong and gives you a slower connection. Sadly (and I hate leaving electric things on all the time) it’s just best to leave it on all the time.
I would also suggest you Restart (not shutdown ot sleep) your computer once a week, unless you change this setting: https://www.pcinnercircle.co.uk/index.php/2016/09/how-to-turn-off-fast-startup-w10/ Basically Restart in Windows 10 is different to Shutdown unless you change that setting).
Hope this helps, but do let me know if I’ve just confused things further.
Thanks.
Mike 🙂

Hi Mike
Just to let you know, regarding the above, I haven’t been receiving emails to let me know you’d replied to my clubroom questions at my aol.com address. It’s no problem for me, just thought I’d let you know in case it’s connected.

Hi Mike
You said you sent me two emails last Tuesday. Well, the second one turned up in my inbox today (Sunday) dated the 31st October. Maybe it decided to take the scenic route? Anyway, just thought I’d let you know.

Awesome! Thanks so much for getting back to me.
It does look like everything is working now. It was caused by a problem with our email provider, I have changed the default way we send an email. We now send them through a service which is dedicated to sending emails like ours. It took a little bit of time to setup and test but I think it’s all working now. At least on my last test, it passed all the technical things that make email work! (including sending it over a secure connection not shown in this pic) https://www.pcinnercircle.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/email-works.jpg I won’t go into detail about how all that works, but if they say PASS then there is much less chance of it going into SPAM or being blocked.
Thank you so much for helping me out.
Mike 🙂
