Hello!
I am back from my trip away and, as promised, here I am to share some of my adventure with you.
Now, I know some of you might have thought, ‘Oh, Mike’s keeping his holiday plans a secret from us, that must be some kind of security thing’, and while it is true you should not advertise your house is empty on the internet… In this case it was purely because I hadn’t actually planned where I was going.
*big reveal* I went to Scotland!
Click on any of the photos below to see my full photo album and the photos in full size, or click here!
First Stop
Carlisle – City of the Lakes (apparently)
Where I met up with a friend of The Inner Circle, Georgia! I know some of you are new members so the short version of this story is that I took over from Georgia answering the questions on here last April. She went off to setup a Roller Derby team and to concentrate on other work things.
Here is a photo of us outside an iconic Carlisle landmark… Click the photo to see which!
Spoiler, not that iconic, but by the time I got my act together with taking a photo it was quite late at night and we were not close enough to the castle, or anywhere else of interest.
She sends massive “geeky” hug and hellos to you all, and is sorry she couldn’t help out with answering the questions while I was away.
It was lovely to see her, we ate nothing but the finest pizza, played some board games (one of which didn’t have a board?!) and watched a program about UFO hunting in america, what more could a geek want? Pancakes you say?
We had pancakes! Georgia makes an amazing banana pancake, I didn’t get a photo of them (they didn’t last long enough) but you can listen to Banana Pancakes by Jack Johnson while you read this post. Click here to play then come back and read on…
Over the border…
Glasgow
I went to the ‘Adventures in Space’ exhibit at The Lighthouse which was fantastic, it explored the history of architecture in science-fiction through books, films, TV and comics.
And of course everyone’s favourite words to see on the front of a book…
I also spotted this sign in Glasgow which made me think of The Inner Circle as it is also a members only club. Hopefully you find our club a little better looked after than this post. And I wouldn’t touch those ominous looking wires if I were you…
Edinburgh
Here I stayed with another friend, an old house mate who moved up to the big city. We did some exploring (there are lots and lots of steps in Edinburgh). We went to the roof garden of one of the museums…
As well as heading up to the castle I went into space
We saw where our books are printed, this guy has been type setting for a very long time…
I went on an underground ghost walk, sadly we didn’t meet the ghost of South Bridge, but the story telling and exploring the underground vaults was really good, would recommend. I didn’t get any photos of this, sorry.
Stirling
I took the train up to Stirling, it’s about an hour north (ish) from Edinburgh by train and is stunning. I have never been before but it is a lovely city, it has an old castle
A monument to William Wallace, which I walked up in glorious warm sunny weather, and walked back down from in torrential ice cold (almost) hail!
There is a famous bridge, ‘Stirling Bridge’
And what looks like a UFO landing point… No one seemed to know what it was…
But not for drones
[Ok ok the no drone sign was somewhere else in Stirling, but still…]

I now have Windows 10.
Do you still have literature that would help me to find my way around?
It needs to be simple! The Lord has allowed me to reach 85 this month!
As a Scott living in Dumbarton your photos were much appreciated.

I certainly like the holiday pics., but now down to business: my desktop runs windows 8.1 and I have a password set up on it, is it possible to set it so that if I don’t use the computer for a while I have to re-enter the password next time I want to use the computer.

Hi Wendy
Glad you enjoyed the photos 🙂
Yes indeed, down to business.
You certainly can have a password prompt after a set time, it is triggered by the screen saver and in Widows there is a tick box which says “On resume show login box”. You use the amount of time before the screen saver is shown to set how quickly your PC should lock.
I don’t have a Windows 8.1 computer handy, but someone has written a how-to guide which you can view here:
http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000790.htm
Scroll down until you see the title “Set the screen saver password in Windows Vista, 7, 8, and 10” then there are 4 steps you can follow.
As ever if you need any further details please don’t hesitate to pop back on here and ask.
Let me know how you get on
Mike
